Rare Lung Diseases Week 2016

ATS LogoIn 2016, the ATS Public Advisory Roundtable (PAR) continues its successful program “Rare Lung Disease Week at the ATS,” which represents a society-wide initiative to recognize the many rare lung disorders for which ATS PAR member organizations provide support and guidance to patients and their families.

The week of July 17 – 23, 2016, has been designated Rare Lung Diseases Week. During this week ATS and PAR partner the Lymphangiomatosis & Gorham’s Disease Alliance (LGDA) will bring patient issues to the front and center of the Society’s agenda, focusing on the ways in which Generalized Lymphatic Anomaly (GLA – aka, lymphangiomatosis) and Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) may impact lung health and innovation in imaging the lymphatic vessels in the chest.

Beginning July 17, 2016, the ATS-PAR will host content on its website specific to GLA (lymphangiomatosis) and GSD linked back to the LGDA website, including disease information, patient and professional resources, clinical trials, and patient stories. Francis X. McCormack, MD, Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, ATS Leader is the co-host of the ATS Rare Lung Diseases Week at the ATS with Jack Kelly, President of the LGDA, ATS PAR Member.

A centerpiece of the week’s activities will be a live international webinar entitled “MR Lymphangiogram: New Diagnostic Imaging and Treatment Options in Pulmonary Lymphatic Disorders” presented by Maxim Itkin, MD, and Yoav Dori, MD, Co-directors of the Lymphatic Imaging and Intervention Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  The presentation will be introduced by Jack Kelly, President of the LGDA. The webinar is being hosted by Courtney White, Associate Director, Patient Outreach, ATS. Following the presentation Dr. Itkin and Dr. Dori will answer questions from those attending.
