Distinguished Achievement Award
American Thoracic Society – Public Advisory Roundtable Honors Member of LGDA Medical Advisory Council
Each year at the International Conference of the American Thoracic Society the Public Advisory Roundtable (ATS-PAR) presents the William J. Martin II Distinguished Achievement Award to a person who exhibits a passion for patients, an impressive history in public service, innovative spirit, and outstanding leadership skills.
The 2012 Award was presented to Leland L. Fan, MD, Professor, University of Colorado School of Medicine, and a member of the Medical Advisory Council of the Lymphangiomatosis & Gorham’s Disease Alliance. The presentation was made on Monday, May 21, 2012, during the ATS PAR Symposium at the ATS International Conference in San Francisco. Over the course of his career Dr. Fan has cared for a number of children with lymphangiomatosis and has long exhibited a genuine empathy for what families live with day in and day out while searching and praying for answers, better treatments, and cures. His exemplary reputation as teacher and leader, innovator, and public servant grew from his desire to help children breathe easier and live longer, healthier lives.
We offer our sincere congratulations to Dr. Fan and thank him for all he has done to help the LGDA community, as well as the rare lung disease community as a whole.
